Blueprint System

The Blueprint System is Maudel’s requirements-first document generation pipeline. Before a single line of code is written, NorthStar documents capture the complete intent, architecture, and design of the project.

The Four NorthStar Documents

Compass Document

The high-level vision document. Captures goals, scope, constraints, stakeholder expectations, and success criteria. The Compass sets the direction that all downstream artifacts must align with.

Architecture Document

The technical architecture specification. Defines the technology stack, data model, API contracts, system boundaries, integration points, and infrastructure requirements. Every implementation decision traces back to an Architecture node in the traceability graph.

UX Design Document

The user experience specification. Captures screens, interactions, navigation flows, component hierarchies, and accessibility requirements. Ensures that implementation matches user intent, not just technical requirements.

Manifest Document

The final consolidated specification. Merges and reconciles all upstream documents into a single authoritative reference that the pipeline uses for story generation, implementation planning, and validation.

Structured Q&A Flow

Blueprint creation uses a guided, one-question-at-a-time flow. Each question builds on previous answers, and gap-intent analysis between phases ensures nothing is missed. The system identifies ambiguities, contradictions, and missing requirements before advancing.

Multi-Blueprint Registry

Maudel supports multiple blueprints per project:

• Main blueprint — the primary project specification
• Module blueprints — specifications for subsystems or features that inherit parent context
• Blueprint versioning — track changes to intent over time

Build Mode Selection

Blueprint depth adapts to project needs:

• YOLO mode — minimal specification, fast execution
• POC mode — enough structure for proof-of-concept
• MVP mode — production-ready specification for minimum viable product
• Production mode — full specification with all four NorthStar phases enabled

Each mode controls which Blueprint phases are required, balancing speed against thoroughness.
